The Protection and Social Rehabilitation Center "AMAN", a Qatar Foundation center for Social Work, concluded yesterday a series of awareness events and activities that it held over a week to celebrate the International Women's Day, which is held on March 8 of each year in celebration and appreciation of women and their global achievements and success in all fields. On this occasion, the Center organized an recreational and educational trip at Haniya Salema farm, dedicated to receiving (20) women from different segments of Qatari society. This day included many activities and events, including introducing the role of the Center, and attending rehabilitation and awareness sessions. In addition, the Center also presented many innovation workshops on issues related to women's empowerment and the work of the Center.
The Center chose Haniya Salma farm for the event because this farm represents noble values that are in line with the International Women's Day and Aman Center. This farm is part of a voluntary project and has many values, the most important of which are preserving the environment and caring for talents and crafts. The farm is also an integrated experience to enrich the senses, and includes a number of tents made of organic and sustainable materials that tell the story of the fragrant history of our ancestors. The spaces inside the farm are designed to be participatory and convergent in an atmosphere of simplicity and away from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
This event provided the participants with awareness sessions and sports sessions in order to promote physical and mental health.
During the event, the Center allocated a space to introduce its most important achievements in terms of helping and rehabilitating victims of family violence and breakdown and reintegrating them into society.
In this regard, Mrs. Sabika Al-Nasr, Acting Director of the Rehabilitation Department at Aman Center, expressed that the women's empowerment workshops help to psychologically strengthen women who are victims of family violence or breakdown and reintegrate them into society in order to uplift them and enhance their participation in all fields. Mrs. Al-Nasr pointed out that this initiative is based on Qatar National Vision 2030, which gave an appreciable attention to the issue of empowering women, enhancing their capabilities, and providing them with social protection.
She added: “Aman Center decided to organize this educational and recreational trip on the occasion of International Women's Day, in accordance with its commitment to protect and rehabilitate victims of family violence and breakdown through awareness training workshops that it presented, indicating the important role played by the counseling and awareness sessions held by the Center on the farm in enhancing the image of women in front of themselves and the society, strengthening their personalities and helping them to integrate with their surroundings". Further, she indicated that, through these sessions, scenes of some real cases in the Center were introduced, and the participants' opinions and ideas about issues were presented with the aim of concluding the Center's work mechanism.
At the conclusion, the participants put forward some different issues and visions regarding the issue of women in general, and the issue of their empowerment and social protection in particular, for the sake of public discussion and reaching important outputs and recommendations that help the Center achieve its desired goals.
About International Women's Day:
It is worth noting that the theme of International Women's Day for this year 2022 is “Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow", in recognition of the various contributions of women and girls around the world who lead the task of adapting, mitigating and responding to climate change to build a more sustainable future for all.
In the light of climate crisis and reducing disaster risks, promoting equity is one of the biggest global challenges we face in the twenty-first century. The issues of climate change and sustainability have always had, and will continue to have, highly acute and lasting impacts on our environment and our economic and social development, and, definitely, the most vulnerable and marginalized are the most affected by this crisis. We know every day with more certainty that women are more vulnerable to the effects of climate change than men, because women make up the majority of the world's poor and are more dependent on natural resources that are particularly threatened by climate change.
On the other hand, women and girls are effective leaders and change-makers in terms of climate change mitigation and adaptation. Women are involved in various sustainability-related initiatives around the world, and their participation and leadership always result in more effective climate action. Therefore, continuing to study opportunities and barriers to empower women and girls to have their voices heard and participate in decision-making on all issues related to climate change and sustainability is essential if we want to achieve sustainable development and equity, as we cannot have a sustainable or equal future without achieving equality.
